Intersection Redesign for Network Resilience and Safety

This paper describes a procedure for improving the resilience of roadway networks. A methodology is outlined that develops time-dependent and performance-based index. was applied to an Italian road, with aim optimizing intersections are critical due inadequate baseline capacity. The uses calibrated microscopic traffic model (using Aimsun™) whereby average delay at intersection approaches estimated by analytical model. From simulation, speed over time obtained each approach. These values in turn used as inputs calculating intersection’s allows identification less resilient intersections, provides design solutions them. Lastly, safety assessment tested one intersections.
